Challenging Khmer Unicode on Ubuntu Feisty Fawn

October 1st, 2007 . Posted in general.

Got a few day stuck with a new challenging of the Khmer Unicode on my updated Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, but still i cannot figure out how to make it work properly on this system. I really want to make it work on this system, because 50 percent i have moved to it — feeling like hating Windows, Ubuntu is really impressive with the latest Feisty Fawn version.

In the image above looks like it is almost done. Firefox can display the script but problem with the foot script. On the title bar look like it’s properly working.. hm.. got no idea what happen :(

From the Synaptic Software package i’ve installed all these fonts and libraries to enable…but do not what else i need to make it work.

On khmerOs discussion things look really simple:
> first of all you have to have ttf-khmeros package first. then go to
> console (jnome-terminal) and type: sudo apt-get install ttf-khmeros
> type: > and then setup keyboard go to System->Preferences->Keyboard->Layout then
> click Add and then select Cambodia. that is all for making ubuntu

I think you should ask for help from Kenno (http://ekenno.blogspot.com/) he might have an answer for you. he maintains 2 debian (which Ubuntu is based on) deb package at the moment, one is Khmer unicode. he’s really helpful.

To make it stick, you need to do a full reboot of the system the ttf fonts and language packs and support are installed on.
