As technology developed, Internet has become extremely popular for many people all over the world especially in Cambodia where people are getting more experience of using Internet since it was first introduced to Cambodia in 1997, as i remember, for public use, but it was too expensive, about 2 US Dollars per hour of using the service. Now it’s alittle bit more cheaper, $0.5/h = 2000R, and it is acceptable for Internet shop use because yet people cannot affort for using it at home like in other developed countries.- hopefully it will be possible someday soon. Thousand of Internet shops have been setup in the city and provinces around the country while the service become more fimilia and popular to yougner and even older people. Calling oversea is the most popular service at the internet shop for elder people,as i have known from a friend who own a shop, since it has became more easier and cheaper via the internet service then Email, Chat, and Social Networking are popular amoung children and youth. The rest of the services maybe used by students and workers… or maybe m wrong please let me know more what are you using the internet for?

However, DeeDee, high school student, has told what she had experienced with 5 years of knowing Internet from the begining untill now, 2001-2006, and expect of learning more from it.

My Internet Experiences
The first time I began to access myself to the internet was in 2001 (Since I was in primary school, grade 6). During that time, there wasn’t many ISP or internet café (Net shop); besides, the cost of service charge was also expensive ($1/hr or $0.80/hr). I still remember when I first stepped my feet in the 1st net shop I’ve walked in, named Pacific Internet (near N.U), the café agent there giggled to me that “Ooh…! Jom! Kids come to play internet!” I was just only 11 at that time….

I guess there are alot more who have experienced the Internet in different ways. Especially amoung students, as i have noticed, they are starting by joining chart room, oop! channel #cambodia in irc network is the most popular one, Yahoo messenger, Hi5… , where people were enjoying talking to eachother and making friend. And blogging, the next for some of experience users.

So how have you experienced using Internet?

I am preparing something for a workshop about Internet Experience, which will be soon at some of the school in Phnom Penh, so it would be great and helpfull infomation if you just sharing your experiences.
